SAY NO TO RANGEL / HOLLINGS DRAFT BILL: TO THE EDITOR DAVE SCHRAEGER E-mail * dbossmovil@msn.com January 14, 2004 To the Editor: The initiative to reinstate the draft by Congressman Charles Rangel and US Sen. Fritz Hollings is quite disappointing. It will not achieve the lofty goals of having the armed services more representative of the US population or decreasing the likelihood of more unnecessary wars, especially when the president gets counsel from the far-right Project for a New American Century, which seeks global domination and control of the world’s resources. Historically, the rich have always found ways to get out of serving and, in case of war, it is not the children of the rich and powerful who will be sent into battle, but Blacks, Latinos and poor whites. Rather than a new universal draft, we should all demand the immediate return of all troops from Iraq for this war based on lies. The control of Iraq’s natural resources should be given back to the Iraqi people, not the IGC puppets of US-based transnational corporate interests. Halliburton, Bechtel and the others should immediately be stripped of all contractual rights in Iraq and be forced to make reparations to the Iraqi people. That is the way to stop Bush’s and Cheney’s “endless war” for profit. Dave Schraeger |
